Adopt Joey! (Here’s how)

Joey came to us as a completely unrepentant feral: ears flat back, hissing, spitting, swatting.  But, Joey had suffered some kind of head trauma leaving him deaf with balance issues.  Going back out into the world was not an option.

It took a little time, but Joey came to understand that we were not going to hurt him.  He was very confused about his new circumstances, and his inability to hear us, but the food was good and regular, and the place was warm and dry.  Joey's sweet personality and unabashed curiosity won over his feral "upbringing" and we made friends.

Joey's injuries healed, but his hearing did not return. His balance came back and he can nail a ball or a fluffy mousy first time, every time. But he isn't as confident about leaping up. That might change over time, but for now, he's not big on jumping.  Joey loves to talk, and we talk back to him even though we know he can't hear. He loves as much attention as he can get and will roll and flirt to get it.  He warms up to new situations very quickly, which is surprising given his feral background. He loves the other foster cats, but doesn't have the best kitty social skills. He is recapturing his lost kittenhood and wants to play, play, play!  Sometimes the other adults get tired of him, but he takes their "discipline" all in stride.

Joey would love a home where his people are there most of the time. He would love a kitty companion to play with, or a cat-friendly dog.  His ongoing medical needs are no different than any other cat.  There are ways to train a deaf cat to come when called, and having him wear a bell will let you know where he is.  Most likely, he will be right where you are, waiting to give you some love and get some in return.

Please note:

  • Joey is a Special Needs cat
  • Joey needs a playmate in his new home
  • Joey needs a home with no young children
  • Indoor only
